Onion Latte Caramelized Espresso (Print)

Savory-sweet caramelized onions combine with espresso and milk for an adventurous, creamy beverage experience.

# Ingredients:

→ Onion Base

01 - 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
02 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
03 - 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
04 - Pinch of salt

→ Latte Components

05 - 2 shots (2 ounces) freshly brewed espresso
06 - 1 1/4 cups whole milk or oat milk
07 - 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

# Instructions:

01 - In a small skillet over medium-low heat, melt unsalted butter. Add sliced onion, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Sauté gently, stirring occasionally, until onions reach a deeply caramelized, golden brown color, about 12–15 minutes. Maintain low heat for optimal flavor development.
02 - Transfer caramelized onions and any pan juices to a blender. Add 2 tablespoons of milk and blend until the mixture becomes completely smooth. Press the resulting purée through a fine-mesh sieve to achieve a silky consistency.
03 - Brew 2 shots (2 ounces) of espresso and pour evenly into two serving cups. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the strained onion purée into each cup until thoroughly incorporated.
04 - Heat remaining milk (about 1 1/4 cups) until steaming. Froth using a milk frother or whisk until a creamy and foamy texture is achieved.
05 - Pour frothed milk over the espresso and onion mixture in both cups. Sweeten with honey or maple syrup if preferred. Stir gently and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
